I used to really, really like Jay-Z… But these days his stuff just seems to lack originality for me - I can hear undertones from at least five other tracks, making it all a bit cliched.
His videos have always been good though.

You know, I think I’m a bit the opposite. I never used to be able to stand him or understand the whole gangster-thug mentality to the rap/hip-hop “industry.” A few friends I’ve made in my neighborhood have brought a new understanding of that to me. I have a certain sense of respect for the man Jay-Z has gown up to be. The beats may be old and tired but he’s bringing a new perspective that only comes with maturity, he’s still able to bust a lyrical flow. Did I just actually use those words? *crawls away cringing*

To be honest, I don’t think Jay-Z’s ever been part of the gangsta scene - he’s always been a bit too commercial for that! I guess he can still bust a lyric though.
In terms of Rap music though, he’s just not innovating any more. He records to sell to an established audience, who will buy whatever he churns out - a bit like Cliff Richard!
Maybe being a rapper myself means that I’m a bit cynical of the commercial side of the industry though…

Did I use the word ‘though’ enough in that comment though?

Rap and Hip-Hop are like every other genre of music. They all leave me wondering if there really is anything new left to create. Some of us will always have our favorite genres, some will stick within those and others will continue to be eclectic but all in all, I haven’t heard anything “new” in years.
And Paul, you keep on using “though” as often as you want because I’m going to keep using quotes whenever I want. LOL

Well, that’s just “fine” though - so long as you don’t “switch” from using “quotes” to “though” though.
